There’s a distinction to be made between your clients being able to depend on you, and clients who are dependent on you. Based on decidedly far too little info and a huge hunch, I’m going to say I bet you’ve allowed your clients to be dependent on you. And now that they are, and are seemingly unable to function without you, it feels like there’s no way off that gerbil wheel you’ve put yourself on.
Being dependable really is every bit as good as being indispensible. It just doesn’t come with the insanity that indispensability often brings with it. It’s an appropriate way to take care of your clients and their businesses, and, maybe most important for you, it allows you time away to have a life.
