At AssistU, we have a monthly community newsletter that's been written since we started the company, called The VA News. Our COO Dawn writes a letter to the community each month, and in this month's edition, Dawn wrote something I wanted to share with you. It's below, and unto itself, it's this week's Bit O’Moxie.
The biggest challenge most of us face is lack of self-confidence. Even those of us who have worked on this issue can still have moments of doubt, where we let that inner critic creep in. Sometimes the critic creeps in quietly, and we don't even notice him until it's too late. Other times, he comes barging in, knocking everything down in his path, including us.What happens is that we get so used to ourselves that we no longer realize how special we are. Here's an example: you've been working Microsoft Word for umpteen years, and you're pretty good at it. You can do nifty things like mail merges and sorting data. However, you know that Word can do some things that you just don't know about. So, you tell yourself, "I'm not an expert. I can do a few basic things. I'm okay at Word."
Then, you run into someone, maybe a client, who doesn't know how to bold a sentence in Word. (It really does happen. I spent an hour training someone on how to select text with a mouse and do exciting things like bold and italicize - meaning it was exciting for her. She never knew she could do those things in Word.) You realize that your "basic" level of knowledge is anything but. You've been working with it so long that it started to feel basic and just a part of what you could do. You forgot that you really are awesome.
So that's what I'd like to leave you with today. Each and every one of us is awesome, skilled, and wonderful. We wouldn't be here at AssistU if we weren't. We wouldn't have started our own businesses if we weren't. Kick the inner critic to the curb and realize your own wonder.
Basking in your awesomeness,
Dawn

Oh, one more thing. Dawn is our COO, but also owns her own fabulous company where she helps people become better writers. If you or your clients believe/know you need help with your writing, do yourself (and your clients) a favor and check out the offerings at Write Well U!
