Recently, I heard a great story about a guy, who, when young, had been a really great football player—better than most others his age. Trying to get into University on scholarship, he pushed too hard to impress a scout that was watching him play, made some dumb moves, and completely messed up. He didn't impress the scout, didn't get his scholarship, and ruined his chances for a pro career. He said that, by the time the scout was watching him play, he'd completely forgotten why he played in the first place—which was because he really loved the game.
Reflecting back on it all, he realized that if he'd played for the love of the game, he would have been far more impressive, and everything probably would have ended up far differently.
A good story, that.
Bit O’Moxie: Do what you do for the sheer love of it, not because you're trying to impress clients. You'll do better work, and you'll be far happier and successful in the long run.
