I had the good fortune to do the Lifestyle CEO Show yesterday (if you want to listen, click here). The entire hour was devoted to Virtual Assistance, and host Donna Maria Coles Johnson did a terrific job of balancing the conversation about the benefits of working with VAs, and of being VAs.
Also on the call were Charlon Bobo, and Ginger Derrickson—both VAs. Charlon made an offer to the listeners—those who called in with a question or comment would be added to a drawing for a free, 90 minute consultation with her. At one point while describing the offer, Donna Maria said, "That's a $95 value!"
I know that was a quick mathematical calculation based on Charlon's hourly rate, but it got me thinking about something I wanted to share with you.
Bit O’Moxie: Instead of putting a fake dollar figure on something you give away for free (in an attempt to give it an air of being valuable), create something of genuine value, and charge money for it.
If your goal is to find ideal clients, level the playing field by offering something for which you charge money (a consultation, an assessment), that will tell you much about the "appropriateness" of the person as a prospective client for you, and that you can review with the client, giving him some value for the fee. Serious people won't balk at paying it. And the rest of 'em? Who cares, really?
